Bahrain Announces New Infrastructure Projects Across the Kingdom

Bahrain is preparing for a significant infrastructure upgrade, with new road and sewage projects planned across all governorates. Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj emphasized the government's commitment to implementing strategic projects that align with sustainable development goals.

The ministry continues to support Bahrain’s expanding urban, developmental, and investment activities, aiming to enhance road networks, upgrade sewage systems, and strengthen the nation’s overall infrastructure capabilities.

Currently, 89 percent of built properties in the Southern Governorate are connected to the main sewerage network, with 100 percent coverage achieved in constituency seven. Efforts are ongoing to complete the remaining connections throughout the governorate. Project selection is guided by a structured program that considers factors such as property development levels and technical readiness for network installation.

The ministry is also advancing several road development initiatives. Among them is the upcoming Road 847 project in Riffa, which is in the preparatory phase. This project will feature new sidewalks, an advanced rainwater drainage system, upgraded street lighting, underground utility ducts, and enhanced road safety signage.

In West Riffa’s Block 912, the project will address rainwater accumulation issues, improving safety and reliability for residents and commuters. Designs have also been completed for Road 36 in Al A’ali, with plans to expand it into a dual carriageway with improved intersections to facilitate smoother traffic flow.

Additionally, detailed plans have been finalized for rehabilitating roads in Block 926, including Street 20 and its surrounding areas. These works will involve complete road resurfacing, installation of pavements, and improvements to sidewalks.

The infrastructure plan also includes future developments such as paving temporary roads to connect Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Highway with the Wadi Al Sail Housing Project and the Wali Al Ahd Highway. These projects will incorporate rainwater drainage systems, traffic safety features such as speed humps, upgraded street lighting, underground ducts for future utilities, and comprehensive signage systems.

The ministry’s efforts aim to modernize Bahrain’s infrastructure, ensuring safer, smarter, and more resilient roads while promoting economic growth and improving the quality of life for citizens. With continuous coordination between Parliament and local authorities, Bahrain is laying the foundation for a brighter, more sustainable future.
