Mistral AI to Invest $1.4 Billion in Swedish Data Centres to Boost European AI Infrastructure
French AI startup Mistral AI announced plans to invest €1.2 billion ($1.43 billion) in building new data centres in Sweden. The move is intended to strengthen Europe’s independent AI infrastructure capabilities, according to CEO and co-founder Arthur Mensch.
Swedish data centre company EcoDataCenter will be responsible for designing, constructing, and operating the facilities. The large-scale computing infrastructure is expected to become operational in 2027 and will support the development of Mistral’s next-generation AI models.
This marks Mistral’s first infrastructure project outside France and reflects its broader strategy to keep its technology and cloud operations within Europe, in contrast to major competitors like U.S.-based OpenAI.
